
Sweet Rice Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup short-grain rice
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse rice in cold water until water runs clear
- In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil
- Add rice and salt, reduce heat to low
- Cover and simmer for 15 minutes until rice is tender
- Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5 minutes
- In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat
- Stir in sugar and vanilla extract until sugar dissolves
- Fluff rice with a fork and transfer to a serving bowl
- Pour butter mixture over rice and toss gently
- Add raisins and nuts, mixing well
- Serve warm as a sweet side dish
