Ingredients

  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 ounces Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix grated cheddar and Gruyère cheeses in a bowl
  2. In a separate bowl, combine softened butter with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper
  3. Spread butter mixture on one side of each bread slice
  4. Place cheese mixture on the unbuttered side of 2 bread slices
  5. Top with remaining bread slices, buttered side out
  6. Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat
  7. Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes per side
  8. Press down gently with a spatula to help cheese melt
  9. Cook until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted
  10. Remove from heat and let rest for 1 minute
  11. Cut in half and serve immediately
