Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine active sourdough starter and warm water.
  2. Add bread flour, salt, sugar, and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a rough dough forms.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 4-5 hours until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough and shape into a round loaf.
  7. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Cover and let rise for 2-3 hours until puffy.
  9. Preheat oven to 450°F with a Dutch oven inside.
  10. Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  11. Carefully place loaf in hot Dutch oven and cover.
  12. Bake for 30 minutes covered, then 15 minutes uncovered.
  13. Cool completely on wire rack before slicing.
