Ingredients

  • 2 pounds pork shoulder, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, bay leaves, peppercorns, and salt.
  2. Add pork pieces and marinate for 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  4. Remove pork from marinade and brown on all sides.
  5. Add marinade and water to the pot.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove bay leaves and peppercorns.
  8. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
  9. Garnish with green onions.
  10. Serve over rice.
