Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup onions, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse rice until water runs clear
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a boil
  3. Add rice and cook for 15-20 minutes until soft
  4. Mash rice slightly to create a porridge-like consistency
  5. In a small pan, heat ghee over medium heat
  6. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle
  7. Add onions, green chilies, ginger, and garlic
  8. Cook until onions are soft and fragrant
  9. Add turmeric powder and mix well
  10. Add this mixture to the rice porridge
  11. Stir in yogurt, salt, and black pepper
  12. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot
