
Southern Great Northern Beans Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound dried great northern beans
- 1/2 pound ham hock or bacon
- 1 large onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Soak beans overnight in water, then drain.
- In a large pot, cook ham hock or bacon until browned.
- Add onion and garlic, cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add beans, bay leaves, salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne.
- Pour in chicken broth and bring to a boil.

- Remove bay leaves and ham hock.
- Shred any meat from ham hock and return to pot.
